Breast Reconstruction
Overview
Breast reduction surgery addresses physical symptoms linked to breast weight including neck, shoulder, and upper back pain, bra-strap grooves, skin irritation, and difficulty exercising.
The procedure removes excess breast tissue and skin to reduce volume and weight while also reshaping and lifting the breast. If symptoms are affecting quality of life, this is not just cosmetic – it’s about function, comfort, and proportion.
What to Expect
Breast reduction is usually performed under general anaesthetic. The procedure includes removal of excess breast tissue and skin, reshaping for projection and durability, and repositioning of the nipple-areola complex on a pedicle to preserve blood supply and function where possible. The scar pattern is chosen based on the degree of reduction needed. For gynaecomastia, treatment may involve liposuction, gland excision, or a combined approach depending on whether the enlargement is primarily fat or gland tissue. Recovery involves swelling and bruising in the first 1-2 weeks, with many patients experiencing immediate relief from physical symptoms.

Breast Reduction Revision
Corrective surgery for patients who have had a previous reduction but require further adjustment for symmetry, size, shape, or scarring issues to achieve the desired outcome.

Nipple Reduction/Repair
A procedure to reduce the size of the nipple or areola to match the new breast shape, or to correct inverted or damaged nipples. This is often performed alongside reduction or as a standalone procedure.

Before & After
FAQs
Is breast reduction 'cosmetic' or 'functional'?
Often both. Many patients pursue reduction for pain, rashes, posture strain, and activity limits. We document symptom history and assess proportion and safety.
Will I get a lift as well?
Yes – reduction surgery typically includes a lift because excess skin is removed and the breast is reshaped.
Will I still be able to breastfeed?
Some women can, some cannot. We aim to preserve function where possible, but breastfeeding cannot be guaranteed.
How small can I go?
We plan for proportionality and safety. Extremely small targets may not be achievable without compromising shape or blood supply.
What about male breast reduction - is it liposuction only?
Sometimes, but not always. If gland tissue is present, excision may be required for the best result. Skin management may be necessary in more advanced cases.
