Tummy Tuck
Overview
Abdominal contour surgery addresses loose abdominal skin after pregnancy or significant weight loss, a protruding abdomen due to muscle separation (diastasis recti), and persistent lower abdominal concerns that do not respond to diet and exercise.
A tummy tuck is not a weight-loss procedure – it is best for patients whose main issue is skin laxity and/or muscle separation. The goal is a durable result when weight is stable and aftercare is followed.
What to Expect
Abdominoplasty is usually performed under general anaesthetic. A full tummy tuck addresses both upper and lower abdomen, removes excess skin, often includes muscle repair, and repositions the umbilicus when required. A mini tummy tuck focuses on the lower abdomen with a smaller scar. Incision placement is designed to sit low and be concealed by underwear/swimwear where possible. Drains are commonly used. Recovery involves tightness and swelling, with most patients returning to desk work within 2-4 weeks and exercise after 6 weeks if cleared.

A less invasive option focusing on the area below the belly button. It is suitable for patients with mild to moderate skin laxity in the lower abdomen who do not require significant muscle repair above the navel.

Revision Abdominoplasty
Available in selected cases. Corrective surgery to improve the appearance, placement, or quality of scars from previous abdominal surgery, helping to create a more aesthetic and discreet result.
Before & After
FAQs
What's the difference between a mini and full tummy tuck?
A full tummy tuck addresses the entire abdomen (upper and lower), often involves muscle repair, and repositions the belly button. A mini tummy tuck focuses only on the lower abdomen below the navel with a shorter incision and does not typically address the upper abdomen or move the navel.
Does a tummy tuck remove stretch marks?
It can remove stretch marks located on the skin that is excised (typically the lower abdomen below the navel). Stretch marks on the remaining skin are not removed but may be tightened or repositioned lower.
Will my abdomen be completely flat?
The goal is significant improvement in contour and flatness. However, results depend on your underlying anatomy, internal (visceral) fat which cannot be removed by surgery, and body type.
When can I return to work and exercise?
Most patients return to desk work within 2-4 weeks. Strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and abdominal workouts should be avoided for at least 6 weeks to allow the muscle repair to heal.
Do I need liposuction as well?
Sometimes. Liposuction may be recommended for contour refinement of the flanks or surrounding areas to enhance the overall result, but it is not routine for everyone and must be planned safely.
