Lesion Removal
Overview
Lesion and lump removal at Alpha Hospital covers a wide range of skin and soft tissue growths including moles, cysts, lipomas, skin tags, and other benign lumps.
All excised tissue is sent for histology to confirm the diagnosis. The goal is complete removal with the best possible scar, planned for your anatomy and the lesion’s characteristics. If a lesion looks suspicious, excision also provides tissue for definitive diagnosis.
What to Expect
Most lesion and lump removals are performed under local anaesthetic as day-case procedures. Technique is selected based on lesion type, size, depth, and location. Moles and surface lesions are typically excised with a margin and closed directly. Cysts and lipomas require removal of the capsule to reduce recurrence. Scars are planned in natural skin lines where possible. All tissue is sent for histology. Results are reviewed and communicated clearly; if anything unexpected is found, a clear pathway for further management is provided. Recovery is usually straightforward, with most returning to normal activities within days.

Our Services

Mole Excision
Surgical removal of moles for cosmetic reasons or if they are causing irritation. The mole is removed completely, and the site is closed with fine sutures.

Cyst Excision
Removal of sebaceous or other skin cysts, including the sac wall, to prevent recurrence. This is often necessary if cysts become infected or painful.

Lipoma Excision
Surgical removal of lipomas (benign fatty lumps) that can grow under the skin. The fatty tissue is removed through a small incision.

Skin Tag Excision
Removal of benign skin tags using excision or cautery for a smoother skin surface.
Before & After
FAQs
Will the lump come back?
Complete excision including the capsule (for cysts and lipomas) reduces recurrence risk. Incomplete removal increases the chance of regrowth.
Will I have a scar?
Yes. Any excision leaves a scar. We plan the incision to minimise visibility and optimise healing.
Is the tissue tested?
Yes. All excised tissue is sent for histology to confirm the diagnosis. Results are reviewed and communicated clearly.
What if it turns out to be something serious?
If histology shows anything unexpected, we will contact you promptly and arrange appropriate further management.
When can I return to normal activities?
Most return within days. Wound care and activity restrictions depend on location and size of excision.
