Implant Revision
Overview
Breast implant revision surgery addresses issues that may develop after previous breast augmentation. Whether you want to change implant size, address capsular contracture, correct asymmetry, or remove implants entirely, revision surgery is tailored to your specific concerns and goals.
We understand that revision surgery can be an emotional journey. Our approach focuses on listening to your concerns, providing a clear diagnosis of the issue, and creating a surgical plan to restore your comfort and confidence.
What to Expect
Implant revision surgery is performed under general anaesthetic. The approach depends on the specific issues being addressed. Capsulectomy (removal of scar tissue around the implant) may be partial or total. If implants are removed without replacement, a breast lift may be recommended to address loose skin. Recovery varies with the complexity of revision. Patients typically return to light activities at 1-2 weeks and normal activities at 4-6 weeks.

Our Services

Implant Exchange
Removing current breast implants and replacing them with new ones. This is common for changing size, upgrading to newer technology, or responding to changes in breast tissue over time.

Capsulectomy
Surgical removal of the capsule (scar tissue) that forms around a breast implant. This is necessary if the capsule has hardened (capsular contracture), causing pain or distortion.

Implant Removal
Permanent removal of breast implants (explantation) without replacement. This is an option for women who no longer wish to have implants.

Size Change
Replacing current implants with either larger or smaller ones to better suit your current aesthetic goals and body proportions.

Implant Removal and Lift
Combining implant removal with a breast lift (mastopexy) to reshape the natural breast tissue and remove excess skin, restoring a perkier appearance after volume loss.

Position Correction
Adjusting the pocket or placement of implants to correct malposition, such as bottoming out, displacement, or symmastia (implants too close together).
Before & After
FAQs
How do I know if I need revision surgery?
Common reasons include capsular contracture (hard, misshapen breast), implant rupture, desire to change size, implant malposition, or simply wanting to remove implants.
Is revision surgery more complex than primary augmentation?
It can be, depending on the issues being addressed. Previous surgery creates scar tissue that must be managed, and correcting problems often requires additional techniques.
What if I want my implants removed entirely?
Implant removal (explantation) is an option. We discuss whether a breast lift is advisable to address skin laxity after implant removal.
Will I need another revision in the future?
Breast implants are not lifetime devices. Future revision may be needed, though timing varies. We discuss longevity expectations during consultation.
Can capsular contracture recur after revision?
There is a risk of recurrence, though techniques like total capsulectomy and textured implants may reduce this risk.
