Breast Scar Revision
Overview
Breast scar revision addresses unsatisfactory scars from previous breast surgery, whether from augmentation, reduction, lift, or other procedures. While no scar can be completely removed, revision techniques can significantly improve the width, texture, colour, or position of problematic scars.
Our goal is to replace a prominent or troublesome scar with one that is finer, flatter, and blends better with the surrounding skin, restoring your confidence in your appearance.
What to Expect
Scar revision is typically performed under local anaesthetic. The old scar is excised and the wound re-closed using meticulous technique to optimise healing. Additional treatments such as steroid injections may be used for keloid-prone scars. Post-operative scar management including silicone products and sun protection is important for optimal results. Final scar appearance continues to improve over 12-18 months.

Our Services

Scar Excision and Re-closure
Surgical removal of old, widened, or hypertrophic scars followed by meticulous re-suturing of the wound edges. This technique reduces tension and promotes finer, flatter healing.

Keloid Treatment
Management of keloid scars (scars that grow beyond the original wound boundaries) using a combination of surgical excision, steroid injections, and sometimes pressure therapy to prevent recurrence.

Widened Scar Correction
Repairing scars that have stretched or widened over time. The old scar tissue is removed and the skin is re-approximated carefully to create a thinner, less noticeable line.

Hypertrophic Scar Treatment
Treating raised, red scars that remain within the wound boundary. Therapies can include silicone sheets, steroid injections, or laser treatment to flatten and fade the scar.

Scar Repositioning
In some cases, a scar may be in a visible or awkward position. Surgical techniques can sometimes move the scar line into a natural fold or crease to better conceal it.
Before & After
FAQs
When is the right time for scar revision?
Scars take 12-18 months to fully mature. We generally recommend waiting until this process is complete before considering revision, unless there are specific concerns like keloid formation.
Will revision completely remove the scar?
No scar can be completely removed, but revision can significantly improve the appearance. The goal is a finer, flatter, less noticeable scar.
What if I'm prone to bad scarring?
If you have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring, we discuss this and may incorporate additional treatments like steroid injections as part of your revision plan.
How do I care for the scar after revision?
Post-operative scar care typically includes silicone products, sun protection, and avoiding tension on the scar. We provide detailed guidance.
Can revision be combined with other procedures?
Yes. Scar revision can be performed at the same time as other breast surgery.
